Why you should attend the MTV Bloc Party this weekend??

Hello hello & a happy new year to all readers!! :)

It has been a long time indeed since the last proper blog post. I had been busy partying (and getting lost.. & found) in Goa through the latter part of December. Sunburn Goa 2012 was a blast (sets are coming up soon…. so watch this space) & also ended up playing at Liquid Sky with brother Arnold (AFM). So all in all a surprising end to 2012.

2013 starts with a bang! My first booking of the year is at MTV’s Bloc Party & feels great to be a part of a stellar line-up which includes some of my favourite DJs & bands like Opiuo, Simon Dunmore,  Arjun Vagale, BREED, Nikhil Chinapa, Pearl, Shovell, Lost Stories + Anish Sood, Brute Force, Pramod Sippy, Vandana, AFM, Willy, Sky Rabbit, Goddess Gagged & many more.

Besides that, what really excites me is that the main venue (Central Bloc) of the event is Mumbai’s legendary (now shut since 2006) venue/club - Juhu Hotel/Razz Rhino. All that I am today (& what Mumbai’s overall electronic/alternative music scene is today) is a result of seeds sown at this venue. I’ve had a big chunk of my musical education at Razz. Especially in the rock music circuit, I’ve seen most of the big names now start with some of their worst gigs & performances at Razz. I’m sure they remember those days & thank them as it pushed them to get tighter & tighter to give a better performance every Thursday. There have also been numerous legendary stories of mythical proportions associated with the place. Whether it was the 3 day Green Stock festival in 1996, the yearly Holi barn dance parties, surprise visits & performances by international legends (Paul Oakenfold, Coldcut & Slash from Guns n Roses to name a few), the first set of Bhavishyavani’s drum n bass nights, rock bands on Thursdays, raving till sunrise to psy trance on Fridays or the Jazz nights on Sundays - each & every of these stories have become folklore from a time long gone by.

Also, IMHO it still is potentially the best venue in the city (by the sea) which is screaming for a comeback! As we are in 2013 now (& as we all are much more open minded & progressive than we were in the 90s…. with a healthy music scene) its good to see the endeavors of OML & Submerge in the past 2 years in remembering & considering Juhu Hotel & Razz as a venue for their events. A tip of the hat in acknowledgement of all that this beautiful venue (& the people behind it) has given to the city for more than 13 years to every rocker, raver & music lover alike…. young & old :) Bravo!

So do attend MTV’s Juhu Bloc Party. Its a weekend. There are 2 days & nights of excellent music heading your way. Dished out by some of the best international & local DJs & bands. All tightly knit between 4 amazing venues. Out of which you must visit the main venue for sheer nostalgic value (trust me on this one as you can see Juhu Hotel/Razz in full bloom & potential only in the next 2 days). What’s your excuse now? What are you waiting for??

P.S.:- I would be playing on the 2nd day (Jan 19th) along with Breed at one of the Night Blocs - Beachcomber (Sun n Sand - Juhu) - from 10PM on wards.

Come.. get some ;)
